      • Round 1: Discuss the attitudes towards imperialism in the poems. Are there other poems that you found which reflect different attitudes towards imperialism? 
      • Round 2: How do these attitudes reflect different cultural perspectives. 
      • Round 3: How does learning about cultural perspectives effect your writing of something like EA2: the reflective essay?

  3. Then: Use the Evaluating and Checking and Editing questions on Workbook p. 81 to help revise your EA 2.

  3. Then: On Seeing England for the First Time by Jamaica Kincaid on WB pp. 40-42. Read the Key Ideas and Details prompts before listening, so that you can annotate while reading.
  4. Next: Create the Event/Response/Reflect graphic organizer on the next page of your INB. Look at the essay you've already written. complete the graphic organizer for your essay.

  3. Then: Title the next page of your INB Socratic Seminar #3: Cultural Criticism.  Divide the page into four sections. Title them: Questions, Personal Goal for the Day, Notes, and Reflection. Discuss Literal, Interpretive, and Universal questions. Topics for each round will be: 
    • Discuss the attitudes towards imperialism in the poems. Are there other poems that you found which reflect different attitudes towards imperialism?
    • How do these attitudes reflect different cultural perspectives. 
    • How does learning about cultural perspectives effect your writing of something like EA2: the reflective essay?

In the time allowed, consider a time where either you felt marginalized or you witnessed someone else being marginalized by a group. What was it? How did you react?   1. Do Now: Attach Quarter 1, Week 6 of 10 to the NEXT PAGE of your INB. Read and annotate using 3 different marks and at least 1 written note.
  2. After: Timed-writing for introductory paragraph. The paragraph should appear AFTER the introductory image (on a separate slide if you are using slides). The paragraph should include:
      • A hook that grabs the reader's attention
      • A sentence that establishes the topic of the essay
      • A claim that states the argument or reason for contention
      • A concession that recognizes the argument made by the other side
      • A thesis statement (claim with more detail)
  3. Then: Break for peer discussion, editing, and revision
  4. Next: Timed-writing for call-to-action. The paragraph should appear BEFORE the concluding image (on a separate slide of you are using slides). The paragraph should include:
      • A sentence that draws the argument to a close and restates the claim
      • Makes a final appeal to the values (ethos) of the audience
      • Voices a final plea to the emotions (pathos) of the audience
      • Finishes by reminding the reader to take action, do something, or make a decision about the topic
